MIRANSHAH: Three security personnel were killed when militants opened fire at their observation post in the Ladha subdivision of South Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday, official sources said.
According to sources, a group of militants attacked the post of security forces with light and heavy weapons that led to a gunbattle between the troops and the militants in the mountainous Ladha Subdivision.
Three security personnel including Havaldar Jaffar Hussain, Sepoy Mohammad Ali and Sepoy Arsalan Ayub were killed.
According to sources, the militants after their attack on the security post fled and disappeared in the mountains. There were also reports that the Pakistan Army helicopter gunships later pounded positions of the militants in the Shawal Valley of North Waziristan and killed 10 militants.
Security forces had accelerated air strikes against the militants in the remote and difficult terrains of the Shawal Valley, which is stated to be the last stronghold of different militant factions.
The army last week launched a ground offensive against the militants in the Shawal Valley but faced tough resistance while advancing.
Two security officials, including a lieutenant colonel, were killed during a clash with the militants on Monday in the Shawal Valley, near the Afghan border.
