CHARSADDA: Five persons sustained injuries in two bomb blasts at a police checkpost near the local courts here on Wednesday, official sources said.
The sources said the first blast occurred early in the day and caused no casualty.They added that the employees of the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) were cleaning a nullah near the police checkpost after the first explosion when the second blast happened and injured five workers.
The injured were identified as Fawad, Haidar Ali, Jan Muhammad, Jan Wali and Javed Islam.The bomb disposal unit (BDU) officials said the first blast was remote-controlled in which two kilograms of explosives were used.
The TMA sanitary inspector Ismail told The News that the bomb was placed in the nullah. He added that the TMA workers were cleaning the area in the vicinity of the katchery, or local courts, after the first blast when the second explosion occurred.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mardan range, Muhammad Tahir and District Police Officer Sohail Khalid reached the site of the blast after the incident.Talking to reporters, Sohail Khalid said the report about the second explosion had not yet been submitted. He added that apparently the terrorists wanted to sabotage the ‘Martyrs’ Week’ being observed throughout the province on August 4 to pay tributes to martyred cops.
“All the terrorists and their facilitators involved in the attack on the Bacha Khan University and Tehsil courts in Shabqadar have been arrested,” he pointed out.He said the police and security forces had launched an operation against the terrorists and had foiled several terror plots.
