Khusheed asks govt to end deadlock on PanamaLeaks

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Monday did not agree to the government proposal of bringing an amendment to the Inquiry Commission Act 1956 and said that an amendment in the Inquiry Act 1956 would never assist the process of the PanamaLeaks investigation.

Talking to newsmen at his chamber in the Parliament House, he asked the government to come forward to end the deadlock on the PanamaLeaks inquiry commission.“To approve the amendment from the Senate, the deadlock over the Terms of Reference (T0Rs) should be put to an end,” he said.

Khursheed said that the opposition had decided to present a bill over ToRs in the Senate session which was scheduled to be held on August 5. He also said that NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq called him to hold a session on the deadlock over the PanamaLeaks but he asked Sadiq to contact Senator Aitzaz Ahsan in this regard.

The opposition leader also demanded holding the elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on the same day with the general elections in Pakistan as it had become a practice that governments of the day also intervened to get a majority in the elections of the AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Meanwhile, Khursheed Shah also met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shireen Mazari and Shafqat Mahmood and took them into confidence over the Senate’s representation in the Public Accounts Committee.
