Peshawar Mass Transit preliminary design approved

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak here on Monday approved the preliminary design of Mass Transit scheme or Rapid Bus Service for the capital city.

Initially three corridors would be established under the programme which would be extended to a total of 15 corridors in future, the chief minister was told at the meeting. A handout issued here stated that the central corridor would start from Chamkani and pass through Khyber Bazar, Dabgari Garden, Cantonment, Tehkal, University Town, Board and Hayatabad with service areas in Karkhano market and on the entire city routes.

The second corridor would from Chamkani to the southern Ring Road towards Hayatabad while the Northern corridor would use the areas connecting through Northern Ring Road.The chief minister also approved the pilot project of the Mass Transit Scheme as well as location and reserves for the Bus Terminal and planning of sewage lines at Hayatabad in this connection. He ordered to prepare hiring of professionals on competitive packages for the project.

Earlier, the chief minister and participants of the meeting were briefed on the foreign investment, the quality of the work as well as time period of the project.The chief minister stressed the quality of the project with minimal cost.

He said the Peshawar Rapid Bus transport scheme was a challenge his government accepted to put on ground within a record time and ensure the highest quality of work.Among others the meeting was attended by Senior Minister for Local Government Inayatullah, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Azam Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Law Arif Yousaf, Country Director Asian Development Bank Dr Weiner Liepach and administrative secretaries.
