TAKHTBHAI: The police arrested eight jirga members for marrying off a 12-year-old girl as swara here on Saturday, official sources said.
The sources said that a 17-year-old Ayesha of Spin Khak in Cherat married Kalim Shah, a resident of Takhbhai, without the consent of her family in Ramazan.
A jirga decided to marry off a 12-year-old sister of Kalim, Mena Gul, to the brother of the Ayesha and imposed a fine or Rs0.55 million.
The police after receiving information raided the place and arrested the jirga members and other accused.
The arrested persons identified as Syed Shah, Qabil Shah, Muhtaram Shah, Kalim Shah, Zulfiqar Shah, Husan Pari, Umar Shah, Hussain Shah, Usman Shah, Faizullah, Zainullah, Pir Jamshed and Abdullah.
