Man, son, daughter electrocuted

LAHORE

Three members of family were electrocuted while one sustained burns in a house near the Shahdara area on Friday.

Sharif, 60, a resident of Millat Park, Wandala Diyal Shah, along with his son Ishfaq, 30 and daughter Muqadas, 14, slept on the rooftop of their house. The tragic incident took place in the morning when the girl, Muqadas, shifted a charpoy from rooftop to a nearby shed.

The girl accidentally came in contact with live wires passing above her, resulting in her immediate death. Her father and brother rushed to save her but they too were electrocuted. Victim Sharif’s another son, Nawaz, who was attracted by the hue and cry, also rushed to the scene and tried to rescue his father, brother and a sister and suffered electric shock and sustained burns. He was admitted to hospital. Police have removed the bodies to morgue.

Later, locals staged a protest demonstration against the live wires hanging over their houses and chanted slogans against the 'sheer negligence' of Wapda, claiming the lives of innocent citizens.

The chief minister has taken notice of the tragic incident and summoned a report from the administration.

The incident happened after a week when a live wire had fallen into stagnant water on Anum Road in Kot Lakhpat division after rain and claimed two lives.

Zohaib had gone missing almost three days back, upon which, Ghaziabad police registered a case against three persons Agha, Ali and Nasir on charges of kidnapping him. 

One of the accused, Ali, has been arrested.

Killed: A 45-year-old man was run over and killed by a speeding vehicle in the Qila Gujjar Singh police jurisdiction on Friday. According to police, Waqar Hussain, a resident of Bahawalnagar, was going on a bike when a rashly-driven vehicle hit and killed him near Gulistan Chowk.
