Islamabad
For rehabilitation and re-unification with families, the Federal Ministry of Human Rights on Friday requested the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to direct the District Administration for sending all children involved in beggary to National Child Protection Centre (NCPC).
It is observed that many children are involved in beggary and often seen on the roads/streets and traffic signals in Islamabad. These children are used by the professional beggars/mafias and resultantly they become vulnerable to abuse, exploitation and also experience violence.
In a press statement issued on Friday, it was shared that the ministry also stressed ICT on taking legal action against the perpetrators and mafias for curbing this menace. For that, the ministry is also working on ICT Child Protection Law which will enable the NCPC to provide legal protection to such children.
Under the Ministry of Human a National Child Protection Centre (NCPC) is working on providing protection support to vulnerable and at risk children, ranging from tracing, family-reunification, temporary shelter Services for rehabilitation, reintegration, non-formal education and skill enhancement for children from marginalized and children of un-reached segments of the society. The services of NCPC are in place since March 2007.
