The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has written a letter to the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) asking the corporation to implement decisions taken by the transition committee which was constituted to distribute powers between the two entities.

The letter written by Member Engineering Shahid Sohail and addressed to Chief Metropolitan Officer Asad Kiani says that as per decision taken by the transition committee headed by the Additional Secretary Ministry of Interior, the CDA engineering wing was supposed to continue work on all the ongoing projects including the maintenance of the I J Principal Road.

The I J Principal Road project was assigned the markets and roads maintenance directorate which later was devolved to the IMC. However, following decision of the transition committee, the work was transferred to the Directorate of Roads (South) which remained with the CDA.

After decision of the transition committee, the other ongoing project was transferred to the Directorate of Special Projects CDA.

The CDA management felt the need to write letter, the copy of which had also been sent to the Islamabad Mayor following performance of ground breaking ceremony of the maintenance work of the I J Principal Road.

Member Engineering of CDA also reminded Chief Officer of IMC that on recommendations of the CDA chairman, it was also decided that the authority would continue to take up development and maintenance of highways and principal roads.

The CDA sources said that the letter to the IMC have been written in order to resolve issues instead indulging in any row with the local government.

It may be pointed out here that the Islamabad Mayor only Tuesday had said that the CDA was trying to foil the local government system in the federal capital.
