The Punjab government has issued orders that the teaching and non-teaching staff members of the public sector schools would remain present on every Monday and Thursday despite summer vacation to ensure cleanliness under anti-dengue campaign in the province.

According to the directives, the teachers and non-teaching staff members would review the arrangements to ensure cleanliness and take prompt measures needed to thwart threats of dengue fever in the premises of the schools.

The local administration has also been directed to carry out spot checking and send report about the schools with photographs to the provincial education department on every Friday.

The teachers and non-teaching staffers would also become part of the campaign to aware the common people about the preventive measures to avoid growth of the dengue larvae in their respective areas.

Central President of Punjab Teachers Union Imtiaz Abbasi, District Chairman Shahid Mubarik and office-bearer of Punjab Educators Association Malik Amjad condemned the directives of the Punjab government and maintained the teachers should not be forced to come to the schools during the summer vacations.

They said the Punjab government should activate the union councils because these are the best forum to carry out anti-dengue drive otherwise only clean environment in the schools is not enough to thwart this threat.
