Two women killed, three injured as residential building’s roof collapses in Lyari

A tragic incident occurred in the Khadda Market area of Lyari where the roof of the fifth floor of a residential building collapsed during repair work causing the roof of the fourth floor to cave in as well. As a result, two women lost their lives, while three others, including two young girls, sustained injuries.

The collapse of the fifth-floor roof caused severe structural damage to the fourth floor, where several women and children were present at the time. They were trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams from Rescue 1122, Edhi, and Chhipa reached the scene immediately, along with police officials.

The District South police confirmed that rescue operations had begun promptly, and so far, two deceased women and three injured persons had been shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi. The deceased women, who were sisters, have been identified as 40-year-old Hurmat, wife of Rafiq, and 40-year-old Hameeda, wife of Rizwan. The injured include Hurmat’s two daughters, 12-year-old Juwairia and 15-year-old Hira, as well as 42-year-old Sakina.

The injured are currently receiving medical treatment. Baghdadi SHO Majid Alvi stated that repair work was underway on the fifth floor when its roof collapsed, causing the fourth floor’s roof to collapse as well. Both the deceased and the injured victims were residents of the fourth floor of the building.
