Sharjeel Memon commends Bahria Town for helping people in distress
Compensation cheques distributed among heirs of heatwave, timber market fire victims in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Information and Local Government Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday said Bahria Town Chairman Malik Riaz has been doing humanitarian relief service on real basis as his organisation has always been at the forefront to support people in distress. The provincial minister said this at a ceremony for distribution of compensation cheques among the heirs of heatwave and timber market fire victims in Karachi. Bahria Town arranged the compensation money for the affected families. On the occasion, families of 54 heatwave and 79 timber market fire victims were given compensation cheques of Rs500,000 each. This was the first batch of families of heatwave victims getting compensation cheques while the affected families of timber market fire received their cheques in the last batch. Malik Riaz had earlier announced monetary compensation for victim families. Sharjeel Memon said the PPP had never believed in politics of sloganeering. He said certain quarters had tried to do politics on basis of timber market tragedy. He said the Sindh government had strived hard to resolve all pressing problems of affected traders and families on urgent basis. The minister said Bahria Town and its chief Malik Riaz had come forward with best of their intentions to serve the ailing and suffering humanity by providing them compensation and all sorts of support on timely basis. He said Bahria Town had always come into action to provide relief, rescue, and rehabilitation services to affected families and persons whenever the country was facing any major calamity or disaster like situation. He said the Sindh government owed its gratitude to Bahria Town for providing monetary compensation on prompt basis to victims and affected people of recent heatwave tragedy in Karachi. Memon said the PPP government in the past whether in the province and or in the Centre had always provided fullest support and compensation to affected traders and people of major tragedies including one related to fire and arson incident at Bolton Market and recent timber market fire incident in Karachi. He said the Sindh government had provided monetary compensation of Rs90 million in response to claims filed by affected traders of the timber market. Bahria Town Vice-Chairman Zain Malik said on the occasion that Malik Riaz had always come into action to support people in times of their need and distress. He said Bahria Town would continue to provide support and relief to people facing disastrous or tragic situation in any part of the country in future as well purely on humanitarian basis without any discrimination. He said that under the same ambition each of the affected family of timber market fire and heatwave tragedy was being given compensation cheques of Rs500,000.
