The Eid brought a bouquet of joy, pleasure and a tint of sadness for Lahorites with a special blessing of rain, making the humid weather pleasant.

The city of Lahore, as usual, became almost deserted on the last day of blessed Ramazan , since almost a third of the population residing in Lahore but having their roots in rural areas, went back to their ancestral towns to celebrate Eid. Bus and railway services and airport remained clogged with passengers moving to their villages and towns to celebrate Eid on the last day of Ramazan, which also caused great rush on roads.  "Chand Raat” also remained a great sources of joy for Eid shoppers. On the day of Eid, immediately after Eid prayers, people visited graveyards to pray for their dear and near ones. Parks, Lahore Zoo, cinema houses of the city, historical places and monuments were filled with gleeful kids and families, in bright colour new clothes for Eid.

This year six foreign and Pakistani films and nine stage plays were presented for the joy of the viewers. Indian superstar Salman Khan’s much awaited movie “Sultan” remained on the top of the viewers list while Pakistani film “Sawal 700 Karor Dollar ka” won the second place on the box office. Other movies presented on Eid 2016 included Chan Chudhary, Haider  Gujar, Finding Dori and  The legend of Tarzan.

Eid, the greatest festival of Muslims, wore a little shade of sadness too for the showbiz community due to the brutal murder of the legendary and last great voice of Qawali, Amjad Sabri. On the whole, braving the sticky weather, unprecedented price hike and the prevailing sense of insecurity, Eid was dubbed as one of the best in terms of  an overall peaceful environment in the provincial capital owning to the untiring and highly commendable efforts and measures by the security agencies, with Lahore police on the forefront.
