Four terrorists planning to hit IB offices killed

LAHORE: Punjab Home Minister Col (retd) Shuja Khanzada has said that after a joint operation in Kala Shah Kaku on Sunday night, a big terrorism attempt by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was foiled and four terrorists were killed while their two injured accomplices were arrested.
The operation was conducted on secret information under the National Action Plan against terrorism. The Counterterrorism Force and sensitive institutions took part in the operation. Talking to media persons on Monday, Khanzada said suicide jackets, rocket launchers, Kalashnikovs and other weapons were recovered from the terrorists. He said that two days ago, the Anti Terrorism Force had also arrested a man involved in funding a banned organisation.
Sources in the sensitive agencies told The News that the terrorists had plans to attack the offices of the Intelligence Bureau as maps of IB offices were recovered from their custody. They said one of the killed terrorist belonged to Wana and was the chief of the Al-Qaeda in Punjab.
Khanzada said action against terrorists would be continued by the law-enforcement agencies till terrorism was eliminated. He said more than 75 terrorists had been arrested in Punjab and their cases had been sent to courts. He said that among 1,344 elements included in Schedule Four, 716 had been arrested.
He said 13,802 seminaries and mosques had been registered in the province. The government was keeping a vigilant eye on educational institutions and non-governmental organisations. He said action had so far been taken against seven NGOs for their involvement in illegal activities while the affairs of other organisations were being strictly monitored. He appreciated the performance of the Counterterrorism Force and the sensitive agencies in Kala Shah Kaku.
