KU concludes five-day workshop for administrative officers

A five-day training workshop organised by the administration of the University of Karachi (KU) concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony at the KU’s Sardar Yasin Malik Professional Development Centre on Friday.

Officials said the initiative aimed to equip university officers with modern administrative principles, leadership skills and effective communication techniques to meet the evolving demands of the current professional landscape.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, KU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi emphasised that administrative staff played a foundational role in the progress of academic institutions.

He noted that such workshops not only enabled the officers to perform their duties more efficiently but also fostered a sense of professional confidence. He highlighted that the workshop was designed to align staff capabilities with contemporary administrative challenges and nurture their growth as skilled and confident professionals.

The participants praised the workshop as insightful, practical and highly beneficial. Many expressed a strong desire for the continuation of such training programmes to further enhance institutional excellence.

On this occasion, KU Registrar Prof Dr Imran Ahmad Siddiqui affirmed the university’s commitment to expand its efforts in staff development in the coming years.

Visual studies hall

The KU VC inaugurated the newly renovated hall at the KU’s Department of Visual Studies on Friday.

Speaking at the ceremony, he emphasised that strong infrastructure mirrored the professional strength, discipline and vision of any academic institution.

“I have aimed to enhance the visual studies department’s facilities to better support creative growth,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of research at universities and its practical application through industry collaborations. He added that when research aligned with industrial needs, both sectors benefitted immensely.

On this occasion, AQS Shipping and Logistics Chairman Atif Hussain highlighted that the core purpose of universities was not just education, but the creation of new knowledge and development, and it provided solutions to societal challenges.

He informed the audience that around the world, universities were driving progress through research and development. He encouraged the students to prioritize research and development, and embrace entrepreneurship over traditional job-seeking.

He urged them to become self-reliant and create opportunities for others.

The KU’s dean of arts and social sciences, Prof Dr Samina Saeed, said the varsity believed in the students’ abilities to shine through their academic and creative talents.

The Ice Breaker Foundation chairman, Muhammad Ali, and in-charge of the department Muhammad Shamoon Haider echoed support for fostering innovation and excellence.
