Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the ‘Police Station on Wheels’ project during a visit to the Safe City Capital Command and Control Centre here, a significant step towards enhancing public access to policing services.
The innovative ‘Police Station on Wheels’ aims to bring essential police facilities directly to citizens.
According to a briefing provided during the Prime Minister's visit, these mobile units will offer services such as the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs), various other public conveniences, and notably, the issuance of driving licenses for individuals over the age of 60.
Demonstrating the immediate impact of the new initiative, the Safe City team presented Prime Minister Sharif with the first honorary driving license issued through the ‘Police Station on Wheels.’ He was also shown the first FIR registered via this mobile facility, underscoring its operational readiness.
During his comprehensive tour of the Safe City facilities, the Prime Minister explored various advanced policing centers. His itinerary included visits to the Police Operations Center, the Online Women Police Station, the Taxi Verification System, and the Hunch Lab facilities, all integral components of Islamabad's modern security infrastructure.
A briefing highlighted the extensive surveillance network established under the Safe City project, which boasts a total of 3,257 cameras strategically installed across Islamabad. These cameras play a crucial role in monitoring security during diverse events, including religious observances like Muharram and critical situations such as flood emergencies. The system leverages advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Facial Recognition, for highly effective surveillance and crime prevention.
In a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and expertise, Prime Minister Sharif distributed laptops among talented young individuals working on special cases at Safe City. He also engaged with the Safe City personnel, commending their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and security within the capital.
The Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the full spectrum of facilities and capabilities available at the Safe City Capital Command and Control Centre, reaffirming the government's commitment to modernizing law enforcement and ensuring public safety.
