PESHAWAR: A senior al-Qaeda leader who was the first one to set up military training centres for Pashtun fighters in Afghanistan was killed in a US drone strike, the Arabic language media reported.
Abdul Azaam Al Subhi aka Mansoor al Harbi and Abu Muslim al-Makki was killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan three days ago, the media said without giving the exact location and time of the attack.
According to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), the al-Qaeda said in a statement that al-Subhi was its key military commander in Khorasan and was the first man who established military training centres for Pashtuns.
The Saudi Arabian media reported that the deceased was a Saudi national and was on number six in the list of wanted persons to Saudi Arabia. He was also on the US list of wanted persons. His full name was Azaam Abdullah Zariq al-Muwalid al-Subhi.According to the US State Department, he came to Afghanistan 10 years ago and married an Afghan woman. It said he also visited Pakistan and Iran by using fake names.
