In a stunning upset that few political observers saw coming, Mamdani has managed to clinch the Democratic nomination for mayor, defeating seasoned heavyweight Andrew Cuomo. Despite his clear policy focus on the core issues affecting New Yorkers, Mamdani’s campaign was persistently framed through the lens of his foreign policy views -- particularly his vocal criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza and his refusal to offer unconditional political alignment with Israel.
