Lau becomes Asian squash champ

ISLAMABAD: Hong Kong’s Alex Lau became Asian Squash champion as he defeated top seed Qatari Abdullah Al Tamimi in the final in Malaysia. Lau won the final in a hard fought straight games 14-12, 13-11, 11-9.
Ho Tze Lok also from Hong Kong won the women’s crown beating Rachel Arnold from Malaysia 11-4, 10-12, 11-4, 11-0. Pakistan’s two leading players Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal, who represented the country in the men’s event, failed to make it to the semi-finals.
Noor crashed out in the pre-quarters beaten by an unknown Malaysian ranked 196 in the world. Nasir was beaten in the quarter-finals by a player who lost to Tamimi in straight games in the semis.
