Committee discusses Muharram programmes
PESHAWAR: A representative meeting of the Muharram Committee of the Imamia Jirga was held under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s General Secretary, Akhunzada Muzaffar Ali.
According to a press release, the meeting was attended by committee members, religious scholars, orators, community elders, founders of Majalis, caretakers of Imambargahs, procession organizers and license holders, leaders and instructors of mourning groups, student organizations, and members of Muharram Committees from across the province.
Addressing the gathering, Akhunzada Muzaffar Ali stated that, as in previous years, all programmes related to Muharram—including Azadari, Majalis-e-Aza, and processions—would be held this year as well.
He said community members would actively contribute to maintaining law and order throughout the province. Due to weather conditions, changes in the timings of certain processions and gatherings may be expected.
Muzaffar Ali emphasized that full cooperation would be extended to the administration and relevant departments to maintain peace and order. However, he made it clear that any restriction on Azadari would not be tolerated, as it is a constitutional, legal, fundamental, and human right. He added that Muharram teaches the values of peace and brotherhood, which should be upheld throughout the year.
