Pakistan will not be allowed to become part of any proxy: Fazl
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Friday that the United States has no right to object to the Pakistan-China friendship and Pakistan will not be allowed to become part of any proxy.
Talking to journalists at the residence of Federal Minister for Board of Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh in Karachi, he said that we are not independent economically, politically and from defence point of view and are still in the hands of international institutions.
He said that we have to solve our own problems and if any foreign country wants to invest in the country, it should make agreements with Pakistan according to international principles. He said that Islam has given us an integrated economic system.
The JUI-F chief said that peace and prosperity are essential for the development of the country while the protection of human rights is a matter of life and property. He said that once we used to approve tax-free budgets and this was a sign of prosperity. He said that now a tax-rich budget is presented and rulers feel proud of presenting such a budget.
He asked what the inflation rate was 20 years ago and what the inflation rate is now. He also asked what the inflation rate was 30 years ago and what the GDP rate is now. We should compare it with the GDP of all neighbouring countries, he said.
He said the ruling class must abandon its focus on protecting it s interests. He said accountability laws seem as if all of the businessmen are guilty. He said that until the business community is protected, they will not invest in Pakistan and they will invest their capital abroad.
The JUI-F chief said countries are making progress where foreign investment is made but we are falling toward poverty. He said the country cannot progress until the colonial system is abolished as we are economically trapped in the hands of the global financial system and legislation is made at the will of international financial institutions.
He said that our economic decisions are made by the IMF and if we do not follow their instructions, aid is stopped. Maulana Fazl said the US is becoming the owner of our mineral reserves, and if any foreign country wants to invest, it should make agreements with Pakistan according to international principles.
Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh said Maulana Fazl has played an important role in important movements, including the PDM, and he is an admirer of his family. He said the business community has a vital role in the development of the country's economy and they should come to the parliament to highlight their issues. He said China has brought its people out of poverty and we have to work hard and bring our people out of poverty in the country. He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working for the development of the country and inflation is on the decline while our economic indicators are becoming positive.
