Cop impersonators held with Rs5m worth of sacrificial animals

The New Sabzi Mandi police have busted a gang of police impersonators involved in robbing traders of sacrificial animals, and recovered animals worth Rs5 million.

Officials said they carried out a raid in the Super Highway area, from where they arrested three suspects who had, while wearing police uniforms, snatched valuable sacrificial animals. The accomplices of the suspects escaped under the cover of fire. The suspects were involved in two incidents of snatching sacrificial animals in police uniforms in the Sachal Goth and SITE Super Highway areas last month.

Police said the suspects were arrested with the help of CCTV camera footage, adding that police T-shirts, caps, walkie-talkies, double-cabin vehicles and two pistols were recovered from the suspects. Animals worth over Rs5 million were also recovered from the suspects, who were identified as Tipu Sultan, Amjad Ali and Baz Muhammad.

Separately, the District South police took action against those violating Section 144 and tearing up offal on roads during Eidul Azha, arresting 19 suspects and registering nine cases.

The Frere police arrested five suspects and registered two FIRs, the Civil Lines police arrested two suspects and registered one FIR, and the Preedy police arrested four suspects and registered two FIRs.

The Aram Bagh police arrested five suspects and registered two FIRs, the Artillery Maidan police arrested one suspect and registered one FIR, and the Saddar police arrested two suspects and registered one FIR.
