LAHORE
The Lahore High Court Thursday disposed of a petition challenging possible privatisation of public schools after a law officer informed the court that the government was not handing over them to non-government organisations.
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the LHC took up the petition filed by a local citizen. The petitioner said that the state was bound to provide education to its citizens under Article 25 of the Constitution. He said the government was privatising public schools and handing them over to NGOs. He said the education was not on the government priority. He said there would be a huge loss to education after schools privatisation.
A law officer on behalf of the Punjab government said that the government was not privatising schools. He said it was getting assistance from the NGOs to improve the standard of education. At this, the court disposed of the petition as withdrawn.
