Father, son gunned down over ‘honour’

According to initial reports, attack is believed to be linked to a personal vendetta stemming from a marriage dispute

LAHORE: In a case of suspected honour killing, a man and his son were shot dead on Friday within the jurisdiction of Satukatla Police Station.

The victims were identified as Saeed and his 22-year-old son Shamshad. According to initial reports, the attack is believed to be linked to a personal vendetta stemming from a marriage dispute. Two months ago, Ahsan, another son of Saeed, eloped with a girl and contracted a love marriage, allegedly against the wishes of the girl’s family. The marriage reportedly caused resentment, with the girl’s relatives harbouring a grudge against Ahsan and his family. On the day of the incident, four armed men stormed Ahsan’s residence near Satukatla Pul, Wapda Town and opened fire. Saeed and Shamshad sustained critical wounds. The assailants fled the scene. Both victims were rushed to hospital but were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The assailants broke into the victim's house in Kankar village, Kahna, slit his throat with a sharp weapon before fleeing the scene. The attackers reportedly entered the house and used a knife to kill the victim Mukhtar in cold blood. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene accompanied by a forensic team. Evidence was collected from the crime scene, and the body was transported to hospital via an Edhi ambulance. Police officials stated that the motive behind the murder and the identity of the suspects remain unknown. A thorough investigation has been launched, and efforts are under way to trace and apprehend the culprits.
