The Malir Cantonment police arrested five police personnel involved in a kidnapping for ransom case on Friday. According to a spokesperson for the Malir police, the incident came to light when Madad Ali, a resident of Bilawal Jokhio Goth, son of Somar, went missing near his home late on Thursday night.

His family promptly reported the disappearance to the Malir Cantonment police station. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police launched an operation and successfully recovered the abducted citizen from the office of the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the police in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri.

During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that a police officer and constables of the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri AVLC were behind the abduction and had allegedly demanded a large ransom from the victim’s family.

The abducted man was reportedly kept in illegal detention for several hours, during which his family was subjected to threats and forced to arrange the ransom. Based on confidential intelligence, the Malir Cantonment police arrested five cops, identified as Constable Abdul Ghaffar, Constable Riaz, Sub-Inspector Rashid Ali, Constable Naeem and Constable Khalid.

During the interrogation, the detained policemen confessed to abducting the citizen and demanding the ransom, as well as holding him in unlawful custody. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused officers, and investigations are under way.
