ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for calling former US President Donald Trump a “messenger of peace,” terming the statement “a glaring example of mental slavery”.

In a post on social media platform X, the JI chief condemned the US for vetoing yet another ceasefire resolution on Middle East conflict at the United Nations. “America continues to sponsor Israel in its genocide of Palestinians and is complicit in the killing of innocent women and children through bombs and starvation,” he stated. “And yet, Shehbaz Sharif is handing out peace certificates to Trump.” The JI chief questioned whether there could be any greater display of “slavery and sycophancy” than this. He said the Muslim leaders’ silence over the ongoing terrorism in Middle East shows that they are more concerned with appeasing Trump than standing with the oppressed. Naeem expressed disappointment that many rulers in the Islamic world have failed to reflect the emotions and demands of their people regarding the suffering in the Middle East. Reiterating his party’s stance, he urged the Pakistani government to abandon what he called its submissive posture towards Washington and instead take a bold leadership role in advocating for an end to atrocities. He reaffirmed JI’s commitment to being a strong and vocal advocate for oppressed. “We will continue to raise our voice and shame those in power who fail to stand with the oppressed,” he vowed.
