Digital disparity

Remote work has emerged as a viable alternative to traditional office settings but disparities in access to digital technologies, infrastructure and skills means that remote work is still a distant dream for most Pakistanis. Millions of people in the rural areas face incredibly slow internet speeds, frequent power shortages and many cannot afford equipment like computers and laptops, making digital inclusion very uneven across the country.

Digital literacy is also a big obstacle. Pakistan’s education system has been unable to equip many, if not most, students with the skills required for online work. Without addressing these digital gaps, the spread of digital technologies is likely to exacerbate inequality. A more just and inclusive approach is required to create equal opportunities for everyone.
