Wealth display
Social media platforms are flooded with videos and posts showcasing individuals purchasing animals for Eidul Azha. However, it appears that a competition has arisen, where individuals are striving to surpass one another by acquiring the most expensive animals. The vendors and animal markets are also promoting the priciest and healthiest animals, exacerbating this trend. Individuals are engaged in a race to buy the costliest animal, making it seem like a status symbol. This situation has led to criticism that the ritual of sacrifice has devolved into a display of wealth, disheartening the less fortunate and making them feel inadequate.
The prices of animals are rising unjustly, with vendors profiting from this trend while buyers frequently fall victim to profiteering and pocket gouging. This has created a sense of pressure and anxiety among individuals, particularly those unable to afford such expensive animals. I implore individuals to focus on the true significance of Eidul Azha and to emphasise the values of sacrifice, kindness and generosity. Let us not forget that the essence of Eid resides in sharing blessings with others.
