CM Summer Games toppers to be rewarded with scholarships

LAHORE:The top performing players from Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games will be rewarded with scholarships from Sports Endowment Fund and they can also become a part of Punjab teams for the next edition of National Games.

The winning players from district level competitions will participate in inter-division competitions of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games. DG Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of district level competitions of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Monday.

Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, Director Admin Dr M Kaleem, Deputy Director Youth Affairs Shaista Qaiser, Assistant Director Bilal Akram, Chief Sports Consultant Hafeez Bhatti, District Sports Officer Lahore Tanveer Shah, Administrator NPSC Gymnasium Hall Sufi Abdul Sattar and other officials participated in the inaugural ceremony.

More than 300 male and female players from Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura also participated in the opening ceremony. Khizar Afzaal also witnessed opening days’ badminton matches at NPSC Gymnasium Hall.

While addressing the inaugural ceremony, DG Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal said that the hockey, kabaddi, volleyball and kabaddi competitions of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games have started in all districts of the province. “Prior to district level competitions, as many as 10,000 players participated in the trials from all tehsils of the province”.

He further informed that Punjab Sports Department will also organize next edition of Khelta Punjab Games at a bigger level in the due course of time. “The district level competitions of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games will continue till June 5,” he added.

He said that the basic purpose of these games is to find talented athletes from all parts of the province. He urged the male and female athletes to exhibit their true sports potential in these games so that they can be given opportunities in the bigger national and international sports events.

He said that more sports disciplines will be included in the next phase of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games. “Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games are an ideal platform for emerging athletes of the province to demonstrate their hidden sports talent”.
