LAHORE:In response to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directive to curb environmental pollution, booths for testing vehicles emissions have been increased significantly, with long queues of vehicles observed at various locations.

Under the supervision of Senior Minister and Environment Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD) has significantly expanded the number of Emission Testing Booths across the City.

Director General of Punjab Environment Department, Imran Hamid Sheikh, confirmed that the number of booths has been increased from 8 to 60, to accommodate the growing number of vehicles and reduce wait times.

Key locations of new Emission Testing Booths include Gajjumata, Saggian Toll Plaza, Central Park, Bedian Road, Valencia Town, Race Course Park, Marghzar Colony, Minar-e-Pakistan, Allama Iqbal Town, Shahdara Colony, Paragon City, Manawan Training Centre, Gymkhana Club, LDA Avenue, Bahria Town and DHA Raya. Additionally, booths have been set up in prominent educational institutions, including Punjab University, LUMS, Lahore School of Economics, Aitchison College, FC College, and Allama Iqbal Medical College.

The booths operate from 9AM to 5PM, where ‘Green Stickers’ are issued to vehicles that meet emission standards. Three mobile emission testing units have also been deployed to various government departments for further convenience. Raja Jahangir Anwar, Secretary Environment Punjab, stated that June 30 is the final deadline for vehicle owners to get their emission levels checked and obtain green stickers. The expansion of booth facilities was prompted by heavy public turnout and rising summer temperatures, he added.
