Dr Razia Sultana assumes charge as VC Mardan Women varsity

PESHAWAR: Prof Dr Razia Sultana, a distinguished historian and seasoned academic administrator, officially assumed charge as vice-chancellor of Women University Mardan on Thursday.

With a career spanning over three decades, Dr Razia brings with her a rich legacy of academic excellence and administrative leadership. A native of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, she has the unique distinction of being the first female Vice-Chancellor of a women’s university in the province - Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU), Peshawar - where she previously served with distinction.

Dr Razia completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in History from the University of Peshawar, earning a gold medal for securing a first-class first position. She began her academic career as a lecturer in the Department of History, University of Peshawar, in 1990 and went on to earn her PhD in 1999. She further honed her expertise through a prestigious Fulbright Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Center on International Cooperation, New York University in 2002-2003.

Throughout her academic journey, Dr Razia has held key administrative positions across three major universities - University of Peshawar, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, and SBBWU Peshawar. Her roles have included joint secretary, controller of examinations, head of admissions and multiple leadership posts within academic staff associations.

During her tenure as VC of SBBWU, Dr Razia oversaw the expansion and effective administration of multidisciplinary faculties and academic programs. She also held the additional responsibility of Dean of the University, a testament to her capabilities and trusted leadership.
