The Karachi chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami observed May 28 as Dr Abdul Qadeer Day to pay tribute to the nuclear scientist who founded the nuclear programme of the country.

Camps were set up and banners fastened in all towns to pay rich tribute to Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Karachi JI Emir Monem Zafar Khan visited a camp in the Saeedabad area of Karachi's Keamari district where he saluted the late Dr Khan for his key role in making Pakistan undefeatable.

He said the nation would always remember the role, contribution and sacrifices made by Dr Khan for the nuclear programme of Pakistan.

Those who tried to defame Dr Khan landed in the dustbin of the history, he remarked, adding that the nuclear scientist was still alive in the hearts of the nation.

Talking about the prevailing global scenario, he said Pakistan had emerged as a powerful state after the recent skirmishes with India. The next target for the nation and those in the corridors of powers would be to get Pakistan recognised as a strong sovereign country, he said.

He hailed the nation for an exemplary display of unity during the tensions with India and stressed the need for continuity of that spirit.

The JI leader said that against the backdrop of the changed global and regional scenarios, the country needed to be strengthened to the extent that Islamabad could stop what India was committing in Kashmir.

He further said that the nuclear bombs in the arsenal of Pakistan were the most strong and powerful defence deterrence and the nation was thankful to Dr Khan for that gift.
