SSU conducts self-defence and hostile environment training at Bahria University
A one-day Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) and self-defence session was successfully held at Bahria University on Monday by the Special Security Unit (SSU) commandos.
The initiative aimed to equip students with essential skills for self-protection and heightened awareness in the face of hostile threats. As part of the session, students observed a mock exercise simulating a terrorist encounter, demonstrating tactical response techniques by SSU personnel. Additionally, martial arts demonstrations were held, providing participants with hands-on training in practical self-defence strategies.
DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Dr Maqsood Ahmed attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he underscored the growing need for such awareness programs in today’s security climate. He noted that HEAT and self-defence training were crucial not only for law enforcement agencies but also for civilians—particularly students—enabling them to respond confidently and effectively during emergencies.
Dr Ahmed praised the students' enthusiastic participation and reaffirmed the Security and Emergency Services Division’s dedication to public safety through professional training and community outreach. The event was organised through the efforts of Dr Sahar Afshan, Senior Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Sumra Ashfaq, and Dr Sidra Ahmed, assistant professors at Bahria University, who played a pivotal role in coordinating the session and ensuring its smooth execution. The event concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between Dr Ahmed and senior officials of Bahria University.
