Crime control challenges highlighted
LAHORE:SP Aftab Ahmad Phularwan, the Regional Officer of the newly-established Crime Control Department (CCD) in Lahore, Monday revealed that victims of crimes against honour, such as those occurring during dacoities or robberies, rarely file First Information Reports (FIRs) against the accused.
Addressing a session titled Guarding Society Against Crimes, organised by the National Vision Think Tank (NVTT), the SP said this lack of reporting undermines deterrence against such heinous crimes. "Almost 100 percent of families who suffer horrific crimes against honour during dacoity, robbery, or similar incidents do not file complaints for FIR registration, which emboldens perpetrators." The session was attended by NVTT members, including M Ahsan, M Mansoor, Bilal Butt, M Ashraf, Hamza Naveed, M Amer, Nadeem Chaudhry, Ishaq Gujjar, Jamshed Khan, and Muhammad Noman.
The SP highlighted that fraud cases, particularly those involving amounts below Rs 600 million, which fall outside the jurisdiction of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), often see perpetrators released on bail the next day.
