LAHORE : The National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC), previously known as NTDC, in partnership with the LUMS Energy Institute, hosted the National Consultative Workshop on the Power Sector Indigenisation Roadmap at LUMS.

The event convened senior leaders from the power sector, manufacturing industry, regulatory authorities, policymakers, and academia to develop a unified national strategy for advancing the localisation of Pakistan’s electrical power equipment manufacturing ecosystem. Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division), Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, addressed the workshop via video link, praising the collaborative effort. He stated, “NGC is the first national entity to implement an approved Indigenisation Policy, and its strategic procurement model is yielding measurable outcomes.” He encouraged Wapda, Discos, K-Electric, and both state-owned and private power generation plants to embrace indigenisation as a strategic priority—not merely as corporate social responsibility, but as a fundamental procurement principle aligned with the National Electricity Plan 2023–2027.

A significant highlight of the event was the launch of Pakistan’s first Power Equipment Manufacturing Dashboard, developed by the LUMS Energy Institute in collaboration with power sector stakeholders. This real-time digital platform will track localization progress, evaluate vendor capabilities, and identify strategic investment opportunities under the Power Sector Indigenisation Plan (PSIP).

The dashboard was jointly launched by Dr. Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Chairman of the Board of Directors, NGC, and Senior Advisor at the LUMS Energy Institute; Engr. Waseem Nazir, Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council; and Engr. M Waseem Younas, Managing Director of NGC.
