ISLAMABAD: The Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) is introducing another saving scheme exclusively for overseas Pakistanis to mobilise part of their earnings on attractive terms.
This has been stated by the Director General National Savings in a meeting held at the Ombudsman Secretariat on Tuesday to review the implementation of recommendations made by the committee constituted recently by the Federal Ombudsman Muhammad Salman Faruqui to study and identify systemic issues of the agency for providing improved services to the common man.
The meeting was chaired by former secretary finance Abdul Wajid Rana, who is the head of the committee on CDNS. The committee members were informed by the DG CDNS that they were working actively for restructuring the organisation to bring it in line with the recommendations of the ombudsman committee. For improving the organisational efficiency, existing posts of the directorate have been upgraded and a large number of grade 18 officers have been appointed for the first time in different branches to ensure better functioning.
The DG CDNS further informed that considerable stress was being placed on training of the staff and officers for improving their service delivery. The training institute has been upgraded and a retired Grade 22 officer has been appointed to head the institution, while qualified instructors have been engaged to impart training. In line with the recommendations of the committee integrated computerisation of the system was in progress.
The Chairman of the Committee, Abdul Wajid Rana, termed implementation of committee’s recommendations essential to the reform of the organisation to benefit common man from the services of CDNS. He further stated that the implementation of recommendations besides providing improved services to the investors would enhance the volume of savings.It was decided in the meeting that the directorate would submit periodical reports to the committee on the implementation status of the recommendations made by the committee.
