In a significant move aimed at improving transparency and service delivery, the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has launched a modern digital billing system.
A statement issued by the KWSC read that the introduction of the new system marked a revolutionary step towards reforming the city's water billing infrastructure by the KWSC led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
According to KWSC’s Director of Billing Mohsin Zulfiqar Qaimkhani, the new system would bring previously unregistered consumers into the billing network. Residents not yet part of the corporation’s system could now easily register by submitting their computerised national identity card (CNIC) and ownership documents.
To streamline the process, the KWSC has introduced a ‘one window operation’ facility which allows quick and efficient registration in the digital billing platform. A key feature of the reform includes individual billing for high-rise buildings where over 75 per cent of the units are occupied, ensuring each resident received services fairly and directly.
Additionally, the water corporation has planned to categorise properties into residential, commercial and institutional segments, allowing for more tailored and efficient service delivery based on the nature and needs of each consumer.
Consumers have been advised to visit the KWSC Head Office at Karsaz to register their connections as soon as possible. According to the KWSC spokesperson, these steps are part of a broader strategy to enhance transparency, fairness and sustainability in the billing process, ultimately aiming to provide citizens with timely, improved and efficient services.
