Imran desires unity between PTI, army: Gohar
"There was no discussion with party founder regarding polygraph test,” Gohar clarified
ISLAMABAD/ PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan Tuesday said the party founder Imran Khan desired unity between his party and the army. Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi after meeting Imran at the Adiala jail, Gohar said Imran was of firm belief that it was time for national unity, especially between his party and the army.
However, Gohar quoted Imran as saying, “We want the country to move toward unity. There should be dialogue; the door has never been closed for negotiations with the establishment”.
Gohar maintained that the PTI founder said he had disallowed negotiations with the government but not with the establishment and that ‘the army is also mine, the country is also mine’.
The PTI chairman said the way the forces responded to India had raised the country’s prestige and ‘our morale also went up’. He added that the party founder had called for staying united and be alert. “We stand with the country, the army and the nation. There was no discussion with the party founder regarding the polygraph test,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, talking to reporters at a police checkpoint near Adiala jail, Gohar emphasized that the founder of PTI was in jail unjustly and all the cases against him were politically motivated. He remarked, “We believe that enough is enough; common sense should prevail.
“We pray for the release of the party founder this week. God willing, he will be soon out. A way will have to be found,” he said optimistically.
To a question, he said in categorical terms that neither a meeting was held at Adiala jail on May 6 nor was any briefing held.
Regarding the widely discussed issue of no-trust motion against the NA speaker or prime minister, he again clarified that ‘in-house changes are neither on our cards, nor has any such decision been made’.
Shakeel Anjum adds: Meanwhile, PTI founder chairman Imran Khan Tuesday refused to go for a polygraph test in the absence of his legal representatives. The ex-premier’s refusal came when a Lahore police investigation team reached the Adiala jail to investigate him with regard to the May 9 incidents.
Khalid Iqbal adds:
Aleema Khan, PTI founder’s sister, has revealed Imran Khan’s willingness to engage with the establishment directly, pending their readiness for dialogue.
Talking to the media outside the Adiala jail on Tuesday, she quoted her brother as saying that “he wants to talk to the establishment himself if it is ready.” According to Aleema Khan, her brother said that there will be no talk with the Pakistan Muslim League which has destroyed the morality of Pakistan.
