Islamabad:Dr. Shehla Sheikh, a US-based Pakistani mountaineer, has successfully summited Mount Kanchenjunga — the third highest mountain in the world, standing tall at 8,586 meters (28,169 feet) above sea level on 19 May 2025.This remarkable achievement marks a proud moment not just for Dr. Shehla, but for the entire Pakistani mountaineering community.
Kanchenjunga is known for its technical difficulty, treacherous weather conditions, and remote access. It remains one of the most challenging 8,000-meter peaks to climb. Dr. Shehla’s ascent reflects not only her unwavering courage, endurance, and determination, but also highlights the growing presence and contributions of Pakistani climbers — particularly women — on the global mountaineering stage. As a physician and an adventurer, Dr. Shehla Sheikh has continued to inspire with her dual commitment to science and the spirit of exploration. Her achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished through perseverance and passion.
