Warner confident of Kings’ comeback despite loss to Islamabad
LAHORE: Karachi Kings’ captain David Warner remains determined to turn things around after their disappointing 80-run defeat to Islamabad United in their final Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 group-stage match. With the playoffs ahead, Warner emphasized the need to regroup and win the next three games to claim the PSL title.
Chasing a formidable 252-run target, Karachi Kings faltered, getting bowled out for 172 in 18.2 overs. Warner led the scoring effort with 43 off 28 balls, hitting two sixes and four fours, but his innings wasn’t enough to rescue the chase. Islamabad United dominated the game, with Shadab Khan delivering a match-winning bowling spell, taking four wickets in four overs.
The standout performance of the night came from Alex Hales, who was named Player of the Match for his explosive 88 off 35 balls, laced with eight sixes and six fours. His innings helped Islamabad United end their losing streak and climb to second place on the PSL points table, tying with Karachi Kings on 12 points but edging ahead due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).
Speaking in the post-match presentation, Warner remained optimistic about Karachi Kings’ chances in the playoffs, stating: “We can let this one go and focus on winning the remaining three games to secure the silverware. We have a couple of days to regroup, and we must bounce back stronger.”
He further analyzed Karachi Kings’ gameplay, pointing out that they were in control until the 9th over but failed to maintain momentum. Expressing disappointment in their batting, fielding, and bowling performances, Warner admitted they fell short in all departments. With their eliminator clash against arch-rivals Lahore Qalandars scheduled for May 22 at Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi Kings will need a sharp turnaround to keep their title hopes alive in PSL 10. Fans can expect an intense battle as Warner’s men look to redeem themselves in knockout cricket.
