KOHAT: In a successful operation, the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Sunday killed a most-wanted terrorist in the mountainous region along the boundary between Kohat and Hangu, officials said on Saturday.

Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat range, Abbas Majeed Marwat said the security forces launched a joint operation after receiving intelligence reports about the presence of militants in the remote hilly terrain. During the operation, he said, the wanted militant Gulzar alias Gullo opened fire on law- enforcement personnel.

In the exchange of fire, he said, Gulzar was killed on the spot. Officials said that the slain militant was involved in several attacks on police and security forces and had been on the wanted list in at least seven criminal and terrorism-related cases.

CTD sources confirmed that multiple cases against Gulzar were registered at various police stations and within the CTD, including charges related to narcotics, illegal weapons possession, and terrorism.

During the operation, a 30-bore pistol and a quantity of ice were recovered from the terrorist. The security forces also destroyed a key terrorist hideout in the area. The officials said that a search operation was ongoing in the surrounding region to eliminate any remaining threats.
