LAHORE : The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Dr Athar Waheed has highlighted drastic measures being undertaken to regulate traffic system in the provincial capital.

"Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given full backing to clean Lahore and bring traffic in order," said DIG Dr Athar Waheed, during a discussion with the participants at a session on "New Challenges for Traffic Police", organised by the National Vision Think Tank (NVTT) here on Saturday.

The traffic police cleared the provincial capital of encroachments, beggars, besides slapping heavy fines and even making arrests on traffic violations. "The police have arrested 1,800 traffic violators in the last three days alone," he said, adding that traffic police will impose a heavy fine of Rs20,000 on car owners and Rs2,000 on bikers for one-way traffic violation.

The NVTT members were of the opinion that there is a level of distrust between the public and law-enforcing agencies, and emphasised to build trust between them.

The participants and members of NVTT including Sheikh Ibrahim, M Ashraf Bilal Butt, M Aamir, Sardar Asif Sial, Ishaq Gujjar, Sheikh Mujahid, Hamza Chaudhry, Jamshed Khan, M Noman, M Ahsan and others attended the session.
