1,500kg of adulterated tea seized in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Thursday raided on a production unit in a residential house in the suburban area of Phandu Road in the provincial capital and seized 1,500 kilograms of fake, substandard and hazardous tea being manufactured under unhygienic conditions.
According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, the operation was carried out by food safety teams, following a tip-off received through confidential sources.The counterfeit, substandard and hazardous tea was being produced using chickpea husk, artificial colouring agents, and used cooking oil, posing serious health risks to consumers. The adulteraed product was being packed in branded packaging and supplied across various localities on the outskirts of Peshawar. The spokesperson further said that legal proceedings have been started under the KP Food Safety Act against those operating the illegal unit.
