Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Monem Zafar Khan on Saturday inaugurated a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Alkhidmat Hospital in Orangi Town, aimed at serving underprivileged segments of society.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Khan emphasised that Alkhidmat was making dedicated efforts to provide essential healthcare services to as many people as possible. However, he stressed that it remained the responsibility of the state and government to ensure access to health and other basic facilities for the public.

He lamented that over 30 million residents of Karachi continued to face severe shortages in healthcare and education. "If the state fails to fulfill its responsibilities, it leads to the current unfortunate circumstances," he said. Khan reaffirmed Alkhidmat’s commitment to serving humanity without any discrimination based on caste, creed, or colour.

Alkhidmat Karachi Executive Director Rashid Qureshi stated that the organisation had made history in the service sector, calling the new NICU facility "another feather in its cap." Director of Medical Services Dr Saqib Ansari noted that the hospital already provided care to more than half a million patients annually, and reaffirmed Alkhidmat’s inclusive approach to service. Child specialist Dr. Azhar Chugtai added that the newly inaugurated NICU will operate 24/7 to serve patients in need.
