MANSEHRA: Kandia tehsil in Upper Kohistan has been cut off from the rest of Upper Kohistan after floodwaters inundated the only road in the area.
“Residents of most parts of the tehsil are facing serious difficulties in travelling to other areas of the district and in transporting patients to health facilities, as the Kandia stream has overflowed and submerged the main artery,” Kandia Tehsil Chairman Anwarul Haq told reporters on Thursday. He said the water level in the stream, which flows through the entire tehsil, had swelled significantly, inundating large sections of the road and eroding adjacent land.
“The main artery linking Kandia to the district has been submerged in the Suluj, Kudgul, and Thui areas,” Anwarul Haq added.Meanwhile, a meeting of the district administration was held to plan the construction of an alternative road to mitigate flood damage and restore traffic flow in the tehsil. The DC directed the general manager of the Dasu Hydropower Project and officials of the Communication and Works Department to immediately survey the flood-affected areas in Kandia.
