Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday addressed a rally in Mirpurkhas where he condemned aggressive behaviour by India and congratulated all the workers on the occasion of Labour Day.

He said the entire nation stood with our forces. “We promise that if the enemy looks at us with a malicious eye, we will give a befitting reply.” He said India could not terminate the Indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan would never condone such kind of water aggression.

On the canals issue, the CM said two decisions were taken during the caretaker tenure regarding the canals. On January 17, 2024, the Indus River System Authority decided to approve water for one canal and on February 7, 2024, Ecnec approved the canals.

Under the leadership of its chairman Bilawal Bhutto, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had got all those decisions reversed, he said.

Shah said that on April 24, Bilawal went to Islamabad and met the prime minister who agreed on calling a meeting of the Council of Common Interests. On Monday, it was decided that no new canals would be built, the CM said, adding that unless the residents of the Indus River wanted that, no new canals would be dug.

“The Pakistan People’s Party protects your rights and will continue to do so. There will be no decision that is not in line with the expectations of the people of Sindh,” he told the participants of the rally.

Karachi rally

Under the auspices of the Karachi PPP, a ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ rally was taken out from Tower to the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, adds our correspondent.

The rally was led by Sindh Minister for Local Government and Karachi PPP President Saeed Ghani, General Secretary Javed Nagori, provincial ministers, members of the National and Sindh assemblies, senators and other leaders. As the participants marched from Tower and reached Sindh Assembly Chowk, the rally transformed into a public gathering. The participants held flags of Pakistan and the PPP in their hands.

Addressing the crowd, Ghani said the rally had three main objectives — saluting the martyrs of Chicago on May Day, celebrating the resolution of the canals issue and responding to belligerence shown by Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.

He stated that the PPP leadership took a firm and clear position on the canals issue in the Council of Common Interests (CCI), and by bringing the controversial canal project to its logical end, delivered a strong response to those who attempted to compromise Sindh’s interests.

He emphasised that the PPP was the guardian of the country’s interests. Its leaders had never allowed and would never allow anyone to trade off the interests of the province, the country or even a single person, he added.

He said the people of Sindh, alongside the PPP, had ended the political games and vested interests of those trying to exploit the canal issue. The PPP had never bargained over Sindh’s rights, he asserted.

On the topic of India, Ghani said Modi’s agents and RAW operatives had been caught in the United States. He added that India had murdered Canadian citizens and was directly involved in terrorism in Pakistan.

He accused Modi of orchestrating acts of terrorism within India itself to win the elections in Bihar, claiming that Modi was staging such incidents to sustain his political career.

“We are all united against Modi. No matter how deep our political differences may be, there is no division among Pakistanis when it comes to opposing India. 250 million Pakistanis stand as one against India,” Ghani said.

He recalled that the last time India violated Pakistan’s borders, Pakistani forces served Abhinandan tea and sent him back. “But this time, we won’t even serve tea, nor will we send anyone back.”

He said clear evidence existed that India was involved in killing Pakistani citizens in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We have living proof — Kulbhushan — an Indian military officer and RAW agent who is in our custody.”

Speaking on the occasion, Nagori said Pakistan was our red line. “If Pakistan exists, we exist. Pakistan is our pride and honour, and we will not allow even an inch of harm to come to it.”
