LAHORE: A Pakistani trade delegation representing the textile sector has achieved key milestones in bolstering trade relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh during a week-long visit to Bangladesh.
The delegation was led by Deputy Director of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Hasnain Azhar, along with Chairperson of Pakistan Readymade Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA-SZ) Amir Reyaz Chottani, former chairperson of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) Abdul Rehman Fudda, as well as other senior officials.
The visit resulted in the signing of three significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs). The PRGMEA formalised agreements with both the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA). Meanwhile, the PHMA signed an MoU with the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
Demonstrating the growing momentum in bilateral trade, Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) expressed strong interest in establishing an MoU with TDAP. The Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) signalled its intention to explore opening an office in Pakistan.
The visit facilitated more than 250 productive business-to-business (B2B) meetings, which led to confirmed orders for yarn and fabric worth $2.5 million. Furthermore, sample orders valued at an estimated $10 million -- subject to approval -- were placed, indicating substantial potential for future trade.
In a further gesture of cooperation, the PRGMEA invited textile delegations from the BGMEA and the BTMA to visit Pakistan in the future to follow up on the initiatives launched during this successful visit. The invitation underscores a mutual commitment to deepening collaboration and expanding trade opportunities between the two nations.
