LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators’ experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir delivered a decisive performance in the 17th match of PSL-10 against Peshawar Zalmi, where he dismissed star batter and Zalmi captain Babar Azam for the second time this season.

Amir’s key strike came with a sharp in-swinging delivery that set the tone for Quetta’s commanding 64-run win at Gaddafi Stadium. Amir’s early breakthrough in the third over trapped Babar Azam lbw for just 12 runs, rattling Zalmi and leaving them reeling at 33-3 inside the powerplay.

This was the second time in PSL 10 that Amir had gotten the better of Babar, having dismissed him for a duck during their previous encounter earlier in the season. Amir’s exuberant celebration, featuring a spirited gesture toward the Gladiators’ dugout, drew attention from fans and added drama to the high-stakes clash. Speaking in the post-match press conference, Amir defended his theatrics, highlighting the importance of rivalries in adding excitement to T20 cricket.

“Whether on the field or social media, these rivalries entertain people, especially in T20s—that’s the main goal,” Amir explained. “As a bowler, my role is to tease the batter and show aggression, while the batter aims to score runs. These things should happen, but within limits. My fans post my videos, Babar’s fans post his. It’s all great for the tournament.”

Amir praised Babar Azam’s class and revealed the strategic thinking behind his dismissal. “Babar Azam is a big player, there is no doubt in that. My plan is always to utilize the swing with the new ball. Whoever it is, Saim or Babar. I thought Babar would be ready for the outswinger, so I tried to bring it back in,” he added. Quetta Gladiators’ bowling unit, led by Amir and Faheem Ashraf, played a pivotal role in securing victory. While Amir provided the early breakthrough.
