Despite having a large pool of talented and educated young people, graduate unemployment persists in Pakistan. This escalating joblessness fuels widespread frustration, a detrimental outflow of skilled individuals and a concerning rise in criminal activity. A primary driver of this crisis lies in the misalignment between the competencies fostered by the education system and the actual skill sets demanded by industries. Many graduates find themselves lacking the practical and technical expertise essential for available positions. Sluggish economic expansion, insufficient investment and an unstable political landscape exacerbate this already precarious situation.
The growth potential of small businesses and startups, entities capable of generating substantial employment, is also hampered by burdensome taxation and inadequate governmental assistance. Decisive governmental intervention is urgently required to prioritise vocational and technical training, actively seek foreign investment and foster an environment conducive to entrepreneurship. The implementation of supportive policies for domestic enterprises is crucial to stimulate job creation.
