This Tuesday (April 22), a tragic militant attack in the scenic Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of at least 28 tourists and left over 20 others injured. The attack has sent shockwaves across South Asia. The Indian government and media is linking this incident to Pakistan and Muslims, forgetting that terrorists have no religion or national identity, they are just the enemies of peace and stability. Therefore, these accusations are absolutely absurd. Pakistan has strongly condemned this violence, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and offered condolences to the bereaved families and emphasised the need for a transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.
Pakistan has denied any involvement, reiterating its longstanding position that peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through dialogue, justice and respect for the Kashmiri people’s rights. This tragedy highlights the urgent need to address the root causes of unrest in Kashmir. Foremost among these is the revocation of Kashmir’s special constitutional status in 2019, which was perceived by many in the region and beyond as a unilateral move that exacerbated tensions and alienated the local population.
