Islamabad gears up for major overhaul with traffic reforms
Islamabad:In a decisive move aimed at alleviating the city's burgeoning traffic woes and enhancing public convenience, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has sanctioned a suite of transformative urban projects for the federal capital. The directives, issued during a pivotal high-level meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, signal a new era of infrastructure development for Islamabad.
At the forefront of these initiatives is the ambitious remodeling of the notoriously congested Faizabad Interchange. A comprehensive expansion, featuring the addition of two lanes, promises to dramatically streamline traffic flow, a long-awaited reprieve for daily commuters. Furthermore, addressing the bottleneck at Faisal Chowk, the minister approved the swift construction of a 2+2 lane underpass, emphasizing the necessity for future-proof planning.
"We must anticipate the city's evolving needs," Minister Naqvi stated, underscoring the long-term vision driving these projects. The revitalization of the Blue Area is also set to take center stage. The long-dormant parking plaza will be operationalized with urgency, accompanied by the creation of a vibrant food street. Officials have been tasked with developing a robust business model that maximizes both commercial viability and public enjoyment. The plaza itself is poised to become a multi-faceted hub, housing commercial outlets, a rooftop restaurant, a playland, and a cinema, transforming it into a prime recreational destination.
Recognising the acute need for additional parking solutions, the minister also approved the construction of new parking plazas at strategic locations across the city. Immediate site identification has been mandated, ensuring swift progress.
The meeting, attended by key officials including Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, and IG Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, featured detailed briefings on projects designed to permanently resolve the city's traffic challenges. The Blue Area Food Street's meticulous planning, encompassing pedestrian tracks, food stalls, and recreational spaces, was also highlighted.
